One thing that has stuck with me was the quote, “You can be cheap and good or expensive and worth it. Once you’re cheap and good, you can’t be expensive and worth it.”
If I’m not mistaken, this was from the Rick Gerber episode.
Powerful stuff!
Josh
Yup, that was totally rick gerber! Good quote too. That was his dad’s quote if I remember correctly. Thanks for commenting!
Hey Josh, you won the book! Please email me your mailing address and I’ll send it out to you. ks@successfulperformercast.com
Sweet! I emailed you my address. I can’t wait to read it. Thanks for the book and the incredible podcast!
My favourite moment was when one of your guests (I believe it was Brian Miller on the episode about “connecting with your audience”, but don’t quote me on that!) said that he doesn’t want people to say “we need to hire a magician” but rather “we need to hire _________ (insert name here)”. That stuck a chord with me and has changed my outlook on marketing, because rather than marketing myself now as a magician, I market myself as Rynestone, who just also happens to be a magician. Such a powerful shift in mentality to get people to remember and care about you as a person rather that just as a performer. Congrats on 50,000 Kris! 🙂
I love that and totally agree! Thanks for commenting.
Hello Kris,
One of the greatest comments I have heard lately, came directly from you just prior to one of your interviews. I am always listening for books that your interviewees recommend because I am an avid reader. However this time the recommendation came at the beginning of the Podcast.
You had said that you were currently reading “Be Our Guest,” by the Disney Institute. I ordered the book and was immediately reminded of the importance of going above and beyond in the area of providing more than promised. I then was fortunate enough to hear Marty Sklar talk about his time with Walt and how he and the other imagineers needed to document Mr. Disney’s philosophy’s and dreams. The Disney handbook laid out all of these secrets.
Chipper Lowell, in his interview, succinctly described the power of that tome. Fortunately Mr. Sklar just published “One Little Spark”, it is as much of that handbook that he could share with the public. Because of your suggestion, I have been reading other books on the “Disney” way and hearing Chipper talk of his time with the big D has reminded me about how important it is to set yourself apart from others.
Thank you Kris!! Your work is truly a benefit to us all.
Russell, Yes! I absolutely loved reading “Be Our Guest!” I’m going to have to check out “One lIttle Spark.” I’ve recently fallen in love with the whole Disney philosophy of going above and beyond when it comes to guest service and am trying to read as much as I can on Disney. You might also check out “Creativity, Inc.” which follows the journey of Pixar. It’s a great read and there are some very real, candid stories in it. Unbelievable. Thanks for sharing, Russell.
Thank you Kris!
